StormDrum 2 - Part 1

As a composer, Storm Drum 2 is the percussion section I always wanted as a composer. I’m confident that if Jerry Goldsmith were alive today, he would echo my sentiments, as so many of the sounds I’m hearing I’ve heard live in many memorable sessions.

Peter Seidlaczek's String Essentials 2

Peter’s work extends back to the Roland sampler days when he created a number of programs, often not bearing his name, but often used. He’s probably best known for creating Advanced Orchestra (although he’s done a number of other sampling CDs including Smart Violins, Orchestral Colours and Classical Choirs). With SE2, Peter has hit new territory in string beauty and usefulness packaged at an irresistible list price of $399. Compared to some other string libraries out there that are much higher priced, I have to say it, String Essentials 2 is the new workhorse for independent string libraries.

MIROSLAV PHILHARMONIK v. 1.1: PART 1 OF 2

Many of us who've used samples for a decade or more know the name Miroslav Vitous. HALion Symphonic Orchestra – Part 1 by Peter Lawrence Alexander

While buzz on the HSO is virtually non-existent, Yamaha/Steinberg have produced a quality sounding orchestral library whose great strengths are in its design to operate easily within Cubase or Sonar as a virtual instrument, to blend well with other libraries, and to stand on its own merit as an orchestral library. What follows is a brief overview in time for Christmas planning and ordering.

EmulatorX/ProteusX

Please note: while this is an enthusiastic recommendation for the EmulatorX, it is not the typical "SO AND SO RULES!!!!" kind of review. I candidly discuss both strengths and weaknesses in the programs. Also, the vast majority of my work is focused on doing orchestral replications and this tends to color and shape some of the views expressed. Having said that, get your coffee and read on.
